A year of dragon (giveaways)

In 2013, I needed a new hobby.  I was in the middle of writing three books that year, and I needed something else to do or I would go crazy.  So I began making little figurines out of clay in my free time, and after a time, shared some of them on social media.  People immediately wanted to know if I had an Etsy shop where I sold them.  I’d never heard of Etsy back then, but when I looked into it, I thought, why not?  It would give a few sculptures a good home, and clear off shelf space to make more.  So on March 9th, 2013, I opened an Etsy shop and made them available for purchase.

I had no idea they would become so popular.

I can only make so many dragons.  I am very lucky that I have a hobby that supports itself, but it IS a hobby, not my full time job.  I also realize that the Etsy sales can be frustrating, as the dragons are snatched up in under a minute.  I wish I could make more, have more sales, but I just don’t have the time.

I know there are many people who want a dragon and can’t get one in the Etsy sales.  Here is my solution.

Once a month, starting now, I will offer a dragon for giveaway on my blog.  I will not announce what day the dragon is going up beforehand.  I will not announce what time the dragon will appear, or how long the giveaway will last.  The link to the giveaway will simply appear on Twitter and my Facebook page, so it will be up to you to spot it.  On twitter, be on the lookout for this hashtag: #ADragonHasLanded.  That will be your only alert that the link to the giveaway is live.

Fear not, I will still be making dragons and putting them up on Etsy.  But for everyone who has been trying to get a dragon for a long time, this will be an opportunity to snag one that doesn’t involve  super fast keyboard fingers.  Its the best thing I could think of for now.  So good luck, and happy dragon hunting.

I think this is a great idea, especially because now EVERYONE has a chance to get one of your cute dragons❤
Btw do you still make iron fey/blood of eden figurines too? I just spotted them but they are all, well, not avaible anymore and I just wanted to ask 🙂

  11. Hi Julie,

I just wanted to give you a shout out, those dragons are super-fab! Glad you found something to divert your attention away from your books, even for just a short while. You are clearly the quintessential creative, since you make your dragons as wonderful as your writing. Seek out happiness, and others will follow, I say.

I’ll always be looking out for your books, and now a dragon.

    Forever a fan,

    Lori

  12. It is so cool that your hobby is making dragon figurines. I wish I knew a useful skill like sculpting, because I would love to make one of these for my book shelf. I doubt I’m lucky enough to win a fun giveaway like this. I’ll have to see if I can find any dragons for sale online.
